Dealing With Fruit Allergies - Important Facts You Must Know
Fruits are very important in a diet as they supply all the vitamins, minerals and fiber that the body needs to maintain strength and health. But not everyone is able to consume fruit as some people find that taking fruits can cause allergic reactions in their bodies. The allergic reactions which fruits cause can be easily recognized and it is always quite easy to say which fruit is allergic to a person. So once the fruit is identified as causing an allergy the person can best avoid the fruit.
Oral allergy syndrome is very common to fruit allergies as consuming a certain fruit will cause swellings in certain parts like the tongue, mouth, lips and throat etc. The moment the fruit comes into contact with our mouth or lips they begin to burn or swell.
This syndrome is not restricted to fruits alone but also vegetables. Many people display the same allergic symptoms when they eat certain vegetables. This is caused by the chemical reactions which take place between the pollens and proteins. It is common that people who have fruit allergies are also allergic to pollens. Only when the fruits and vegetables are eaten fresh do they cause allergies in people not when they are cooked and eaten. This is because the pollens and proteins which are present get destroyed when cooked.
Some of the other symptoms which fruit allergies cause are skin irritations, redness and rashes or hives. Sometimes due to fruit allergies the blood pressure can also drop drastically cutting off oxygen supply to the brain. The mouth throat and airways begin to swell restricting air to the lungs and this leaves the person gasping for breath which in turn leads to death.
We sometimes notice that only certain classes of fruits tend to cause allergies to us. Like for instance if we are allergic to rag weed then we will find that when we eat fruits like bananas, and melons like watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew will also cause allergy reactions.
In the case of Birch tree allergy you will find certain fruits like apples, pears, cherries, kiwi and stone fruit which are more likely to cause allergies also. Certain other fruits like lemons, oranges limes and grapefruit which belong to the citrus variety can also cause allergies. This is mainly due to the acidic nature of the citrus fruits which cause allergic reactions.
The best way to avoid fruit allergies is not to eat those fruits so that all that rashes, swelling and skin irritations can be avoided. There are people who have become resistant to fruit allergies because of the allergy injections which they have taken. Though there is another option which is to have the fruits cooked and eaten to avoid allergic reactions in your body.

how to get rid of my fruit allergies?
okay, so i have oral allergy syndrome where i cant have any raw fruit whatsoever. I've had it since I was little and its really starting to bother me! My sister has the same thing but hers went away from eating the fruit? The last fruit i had was about a year ago and my throat and mouth got itchy and swelled up and im afraid if i try to eat it then it will get worse? I also wonder if its just the time of the year too because during the spring and summer i become lactose intollerant..do pollen allergies have to do with the fruit allergies?

Sore throat and usually stuffy?
Got a fever and a bit of a sore throat the day of my move into a new townhouse. Fever went away but I've had a sore throat for at least 3 weeks now. It usually doesn't bother me too bad as I'm used to just toughing it out but a couple days ago it almost felt like there was a blister or something in the back of my throat. It also feels really hot in my throat for the last week or so. I also have a stuffy nose frequently. mucus is green. Sinus infection or something maybe?

Could a banana be the bain of my existence?
I came to the conclusion two or three years ago that I must suffer from some form of allergy to certain fruits. The matter of eating a melon isn't funny, it's causes the worst bumps on my lips of all and are very irritating.
First time I noticed something odd was when I began to eat a banana and slowly realized the itchy sensation in my mouth (exactly the same feeling when I eat cashew nuts). So I've been avoiding the things for years. The pattern is that only berries (seeds on the inside) cause any reaction. So it cuts out a lot of options. But I've learned to live.
The thing is I know allergies can come and go in life, I was encouraged to eat a banana after abstaining for a couple of years, and there wasn't a reaction! So I've been eating them regularly in fact they're the only fruit that has been in the house for the past week. I think I may have been eating one once a day at school.
But lets go into some detail, two weeks ago a very odd bump appeared on my torso, I though it was a bug bite so thought nothing of it, it got bigger over the next day and was painful to apply pressure to. I'd say in just one day it had a very large yellow whitehead. Another day and there was a second one, just like it in the early stages, while the first was starting to scab at the edges. The second one followed the same route. At the moment I have two little pinkish scabs next to my stomach, but at least they're going away. My mother though I was developing chicken pox again (but it's really not a shingles is described.)
I use to be prone to skin reactions as a kid so my mum reckoned it was fabric related. For some more back story I get acne, however my current treatment has been very successful, so imagine my horror when a giant red spot appeared on my cheek (a rarity, I have a troublesome T zone) More appeared on the area surrounding my mouth, but to everyone else it will just look like I'm having a bad breakout; but they are exactly the same thing that was near my stomach!
The only thing I've changed over the past few weeks is my banana habits, so I'm not going near the things anymore! Has anyone heard of something as similarly frustrating as this?

Do shrimp and melons have any shared proteins?
My mouth itches after I eat a banana, but if I cut up a banana and put it in my cereal with milk I am fine. I know it means I have an allergy to something in the banana, but why does it go away with the milk and sugar? This also happens if I eat melons (watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, avocado, etc). I have not mixed any of those with milk and sugar, but I know the avocado makes me itch when I eat it alone, but not when I eat guacamole. I am also allergic to shrimp (I have not eaten lobster, crab, etc for as long as I can remember) but shrimp does still bother me...much much worse than the melons and bananas. I never eat it, but I know that the shrimp juice and if it is cooked next to my food (like at Hibachi) I swell up. So my questions - does shrimp and melons share the same proteins? Thank you for any help.

Fruit allergy problems?
Certain foods I eat make my throat swell up a little bit and makes it a little bit harder to breathe and swallow. It also make my teeth and inner ear itch. The foods that do it (that I've noticed) are watermelon, banana, pecans, avocado, cantaloupe, honey do, and some others. I was just wanting more information about what it is that is causing the swelling, or what foods to avoid, or if it is serious, or anything you could tel me about it.

pregnant with fruit allergies?
I'm almost 22 weeks pregnant, and for a few years now, I've discovered I'm allergic to most raw fruit.. I can handle certain ones though. So today, i took 2 TINY bites of a cherry, and my throat, ears, and lips all started itching. Does me having a little allergic reaction like this affect the baby at all? I mean it isn't like i stopped breathing or anything, but I just wanted to know.
